Recovering

My 1 week check up at the doctor went well. The surgeon said that my leg is healing nicely. I will need to go back in 3 weeks to have my cast removed and another one put on. They said that I am doing a great job at leaving the cast alone and that I should continue taking it easy. It is REALLY hard to stay still and not run and jump. I can now go up and down the stairs, which is good because I missed sleeping upstairs. Last week Mom slept on the couch with me to make sure that I was feeling okay.

To pass the time, I pretended that I was a movie star! And I take lots of naps!

My new boot

01.01.11 Check out my new boot! Mom found a local woman to make me this cool boot. It will protect my cast from getting wet. It is so much better than wearing a plastic bag on my foot!

New Years Eve @ the Hospital

12.31.10 Looking back on 2010...what a good year! I turned one year old, grew a lot taller, got spayed, got my own apartment (kennel), loved to play and enjoyed being the center of attention. Well, I ended 2010 being the center of attention too...at the Emergency Animal Hospital!! What a crummy way to end such a super year.

What happened, you ask? I was outside when I noticed a squirrel, so I chased him. He ran towards the fence, so I chased him. That's what we dogs do! I couldn't get any traction in the grass while I was running (it was 50 degrees out, all of the snow melted and the yard was a huge mud puddle) and I slid butt first right into the metal fence post! I cried so loud, that Mom knew something was wrong. I tried walking over to her, but it hurt really, really bad. I cried all the way into the house. My back right foot was hurt. I would not let anyone touch it. We immediately got ready to go to the hospital...being that it was New Year's Eve, the vet was closed.

I hopped into the hospital on 3 legs and they took me in right away. After some x-rays they discovered that I had 2 fractured toes and one of my nails had gone into my foot through the webbing. I had to have surgery to remove the nail. The doctor did say that my nail should grow back, but not anytime soon. All the doctor could say that this was the most remarkable fracture that he's ever seen. He had never seen anything like this before, at least I made someone's day! They took good care of me there and made me a pretty pink cast and gave me this lamp shade to wear....please don't laugh at me.
I was allowed to go home but told to get lots of rest, not to get my foot wet and to stay off of it as much as possible. Here I am in the car on the way home.
Here is my cast.
Once we got home, I began getting ready for bed, I put my pillows and blankets up on the couch and yes, my leg is elevated! Mom slept with me on the couch to make sure that I would be okay during the night.

Dad let me take my cone off because I was having trouble getting through the doorways and bumping into everything! I promised not to lick or bite at my cast...so far I am leaving it alone.
I have to go back to the doctor next week to get my foot looked at. I will hopefully find out how long I have to be in a cast. It is estimated to be around 8 weeks! Happy New Year everyone!!!
